Cybersecurity & Malware Awareness for Employees (HB 3834) - Launching Soon!

Texas House Bill (HB) 3834 (86R) mandates that local government employees and elected officials who have access to a local government computer system or database, are required to complete annual cybersecurity awareness training.

The OSS Academy course is:

The OSS AcademyŽ course objective is to assist public service employees to gain an understanding of appropriate information security habits and procedures that protect informational resources while reinforcing best practices for detecting, assessing, reporting, and addressing information security threats.


State Agencies:

  • Employees who use a computer at least 25 percent of the employee's required duties.
  • Elected or appointed officers of the agency.
  • Training Due Date: ​June 1, 2020

Local Governments:

  • ​Employees who have access to a local government computer.
  • Elected officials.
  • Training Due Date: ​June 14, 2020

State Agency Contractors:

  • ​Contractors who have access to a state computer system or database.
  • Training Due Date: ​During term of contract and during renewal period.
